Keeping yourself safe on the web

Isn't the web just so great? So much information, news, people, events, laughs, music......you name it you can find it. The trouble is that not everything on the web is good for us and a few bits could get us into real trouble.

You might have heard stories about paedophiles using the internet or have experienced people sending you junk mail you don't want. Here are a couple of rules to help keep you safe when you are using the word-on-the-web site.

>The word-on-the-web golden rules

1) Please never post you email address on the guest book or the discussion forum. Anyone can look at the site and you don't want emails from weirdo characters! If we do spot an email address posted on the site we will remove it as soon as we are able to do so for your own safety.  It's better to be safe than sorry!

2) We are very careful with the information you give us and never pass it on to others. We will never email you asking for your passwords or any other personal information. The only exception to this is for competition winners who will need to send us a postal address to receive their prizes (please don't include this in your entry - if you win we will ask you for it).

In general on other sites never give away personal information that could help people trace you (for example surname, which school you go to, phone number, address). If something or someone makes you feel uncomfortable switch off and tell someone about it as soon as possible

You can enjoy the internet, but just as you should in the 'real' world you must beware of strangers and dangers.

Enjoy the site!
