| Describe it in 20 words | A full-length album of streetwise, witty and spiritual rap from UK-based Christian hip-hop band, The 29th Chapter. |
| Big Themes/Standout Tracks | I'm not a big fan of rap or hip-hop - much of the stuff I've heard is loud, aggressive, in-your-face and arrogant, with "attitude" that comes across as annoying cockiness. There's none of that on this album. This is mostly low-key, chilled-out rap, with clever, genuinely witty wordplay and variety in the backing tracks - some jazz, some soul, some ethnic beats. "Vessels" is the standout, a humble song about wanting to be used by God. And "Shout Your Name" effectively uses a choir singing in Latin. However, my favourite track is the minute-long "Utter Rubbish Interlude", which made me laugh out loud and proves to me that The 29th Chapter can poke fun at themselves. |
| Anything that lets it down | Well, it's still rap/hip-hop, so it might not be to your taste. But if it can win me over with its refreshing originality and class, it might win you over as well! This UK-based band aren't imitators - they have developed an original style all their own. |
| Who it sounds like | It reminded me of a low-budget version of Arrested Development, another chilled-out rap band that was much more concerned with spiritual and social issues than telling everyone how wonderful they were. |
| Rating | **** Great stuff |
