Describe it in 20 words A collection of studio-recorded songs by top American Christian artists, with the overall theme of Christ's teaching on loving others
Big Themes/Standout Tracks The Gathering is not a band - it is the name of a project that consists of a collection of artists, including Jars of Clay, Caedmon's Call, Sixpence None the Richer, and many more. With such a range of artists I expected the album to be quite a mixed bag, but this is not the case. From beginning to end, the album sounds very consistent, and although the voices are different on each song (both male and female), it does sound as if it has been recorded by one band. Highlights are "Jesus Went to the Garden", which starts off slow and moody, but ends on a note of victory and triumph, and "Beautiful Scandalous Night" which is catchy, infectious and hummable.
Anything that lets it down I can't think of anything that lets it down. This isn't a hard rock or dance album. This is slick, mature, classy, well-crafted pop.
Who it sounds like This is easy to answer! For obvious reasons, The Gathering sound like Jars of Clay, Caedmon's Call, Sixpence None the Richer, Ginny Owens, FFH, and many others!
Rating **** Great stuff
